In anticipation of the Purim Festival which falls at the end of February, the Natish Gallery for Functional Art and Design opened an exhibition of 2010 Dell’Arte masks. Proceeds from sales will benefit the purchase of new ventilators in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit through the Association of Friends of Schneider Children’s.
15 different masks will be on display featuring leading Israeli entertainers and actors among whom are Yehoram Gaon, Gila Almagor, Hannah Laslo, Tzippi Shavit, Yigal Shilon, Avi
Kushnir, Tzvika Pik and many others. All the featured artists have been invited to participate in the opening event which will take place on Feb. 25, 2010 at 19.30, at the Natish Gallery at Moshav Gealiya. |
The famous creative masks were sculpted entirely through different computerized methods of silver crafting and special techniques of hammering, soldering, precise silver welding by hand, and methodologies taken from the world of jewelry making.
Yisrael Primo, artist and creator of the Natish Gallery, said “We decided to open an exhibition of masks featuring Israel’s leading entertainment and artistic figures in order to pay them tribute for their huge contribution in advancing art and culture in Israel and their efforts on behalf of many social objectives throughout the years. We chose to integrate two Jewish Israeli traditions into one – masks for the Festival of Purim and the important Jewish value of efforts to benefit of the weak.”
According to Ziva Caspi, Coordinator of Friends of Schneider Children’s, “the contribution of artist Yisrael Primo on behalf of the children at Schneider Children’s is worthy of much commendation. As we have seen many times in the past, we are certain that the connection between art and medicine and art and philanthropy is a fruitful collaboration that benefits sick and injured children”.
